The Starting Point
File storage, newsletters, internal collaboration: cloud services exist for all of this – often with recurring per-user costs, data processing outside the EU and little control. Self-hosting is the alternative, but frequently fails at setup, updates and long-term operations.
The Solution
I set up self-hosted open-source services and operate them reliably: Nextcloud for file storage and collaboration, listmonk for newsletters and mailing lists, plus custom web services. Updates, backups, SSL/TLS and monitoring are part of operations – proven in practice by building and operating several services for UNICON 22.

Is self-hosting not more effort than a cloud service?
The setup takes more effort; operations with regular maintenance are well manageable. Whether self-hosting pays off in your case is something I assess honestly – sometimes a cloud service is the better answer.
Who takes care of updates and security?
On request, I do: regular updates, backups and basic monitoring are part of ongoing support. We define the scope together.
What happens to our data if the collaboration ends?
The services and data belong to you. Upon handover you receive credentials and documentation so another provider or your team can continue working.
